Dear Friends,
This has been an extraordinary time, and true to form, our FFT supporters have risen to the occasion. We are being inundated (in a good way!) by individuals, families, and companies looking to volunteer and help support the children and families we serve through Food For Thought Denver. It is very heartening to know that so many people now understand the level of crisis school closure creates for our FFT kids. And even more heartening that so many are willing to take the steps to do something about it. And we need your help!
Last Friday we decided to deliver double the amount of food we usually provide to all 6,842 students who scheduled to receive PowerSacks knowing that this food would make it home Friday afternoon before the schools closed. This coming Friday, 3/20, we will pack as usual at our FFT CENTRAL (Colfax) location, and our FFT EAST and FFT WEST sites will be closed. All packed food will be delivered to the 8 free breakfast and lunch “grab-n-go” feeding sites operated by DPS schools. If you would like to join our packing event on 3/20, please sign up here: https://www.helpinghabit.com/discover/2060. The packing takes place outdoors from 7-8:30 am. Please do not attend if you are ill or if you are known to have been exposed to the Coronavirus – or if you have a medical condition which predisposes you to a higher level of caution.
On March 27, we will be packing at all three of our sites as usual, but no trucking to schools will occur.
April 4, as previously scheduled for spring break, all FFT sites will be closed. Sites will be closed as we will have a full stock of PowerSacks prepped and in stock for 4/10 deliveries.
On April 10, we plan to resume normal operations if the kids all return to school as scheduled.
It is because of your support that we are now serving 13,215 students each month at 53 schools. 26,432 PowerSacks are being delivered each month and we remain a 100% volunteer effort. Every penny of your donation is used to buy food to fill these bags. Whether or not you are able to volunteer, we could really use some help with the cost of filling these bags. Every $4 supplies one PowerSack, and no donation is too small.
We will continue to update our website with any changes to this plan.
We wish each and every one of you and your families good health and want to extend our sincere gratitude for all you do to support our efforts year round.

Do we have a transportation system that we can count on?
If not should we consider alternatives?
Not sure what that might be.
We have a huge responsibility now, and we are proud to help.
But do we have the infrastructure to adjust to these difficult times?
